There was a moment last week in Nashville when the Würk leadership team leaned in — not out. That’s when you know the tension in the room is the good kind.
We were gathered for their Results On Purpose Quarterly Planning Meeting, marking our tenth quarter together since Deborah Deborah Saneman sharpening — and the team hasn’t just held together, it’s gotten stronger.
One of the reasons Würk’s leadership team stands out is because they’ve cultivated the kind of tension that drives progress. It’s not the tension of missed commitments or unspoken frustrations. It’s not the kind that comes from politics, finger-pointing, or a lack of trust. That’s the bad kind — and it’s easy to spot.
The good kind of tension shows up when seven leaders care deeply about the work they do and the results they own. It’s the kind that fuels healthy debate, demands clarity, and raises the bar — quarter after quarter. It’s the kind that says, “We’re not here to play it safe. We’re here to get better.”
And they have. Over ten quarters, only one change has been made to the team — a promotion from within. No one has left. No one has been asked to leave. That’s rare when expectations are rising and accountability is real.
This Results-oriented mindset creates a culture where tension isn’t feared — it’s embraced. It sharpens ideas, not egos. It builds trust, not silos.
Congratulations to the Würk leadership team on their continued growth and the company’s ongoing success. It’s a privilege to play a small role in the journey.
If you’re leading a team, ask yourself:
Is the tension in your room sharpening your team — or splintering it?
